Games for Girls
Final Paper: How our game appeals to girls :)
Our girl – friendly features:
Our game focuses on the idea that cooperation, teamwork, and social interaction are all appealing factors to girls. We wanted to make a single player game that still managed to incorporate these social aspects in a single player experience. The way we thought would best accomplish that was to give the player control of multiple characters that worked together. Our game has a unique mechanic that allows the player to control a group of characters with different abilities and to toggle between them as the need arises. The player is met with puzzles and challenges that require them to switch between their characters and use their different abilities to help their whole group of characters complete the adventure.
We drew our inspiration from games like Zoombinis, the Sims, Lemmings, and many other games that girls from our team liked to play. We found that many girls from our team and elsewhere had shared the experience of playing Zoombinis, a fun educational game, as kids and had fond memories of it. In this game, the player has to help a bunch of cute creatures called Zoombinis escape from an island by going through a series of puzzles. This game is also similar to Lemmings, which requires the player to take care of a bunch of characters and help them reach some goal.
In our game, the player controls a bunch of birds, since we thought animals could be another feature that appeals to girls. Each bird has a different ability that can be used to overcome different obstacles. The player is in control of one bird at a time while the rest of the birds follow along. The player can choose to switch which bird they control at any point, and part of the challenge is choosing which bird to use to solve puzzles that come up. We think that our game will appeal to girls who like cute animals, teamwork oriented games, platformers, casual gameplay, and a cute art style.
We hope you enjoy our game!
Sincerely,
The Cornell Team
